Folks on this one I could really be on a rant about profanity on blogs. It is their right to do so and it’s my right not to participate in that garbage! When someone uses profanity to make their point they are showing their lack of intelligence to show how really small-minded they are and that is sad. As comedians will tell you that it’s easy to make people laugh with the use of profanity. It’s an art form to do it without it. I think as we write we should have a sense of responsibility to our readers. The thing is if you use it a lot in your personal life then it will naturally bleed into your writing.
Now let me make this clear. I have used profanity ( especially on home repairs) and I will again. My late father taught me that if men are talking among themselves that’s one thing but when a woman shows up that stuff stops!
But then again if you don’t have self-filters in your personal life then you won’t have them in a public forum.
One of the keys that good authors and writers realize is not to overwhelm their followers with e-mails. I know authors are creative by nature and I love hearing about their latest work but please don’t overwhelm people. Then again all of us have the right to follow as many authors as we choose. For me a couple or so a week is fine. Please don’t be like someone recently that was sending me 3 to 4 a day! Of course I put a stop to them!
In this day of all of this so-called modern technology the old adage,” less is more” needs to be used more often. By doing that you will create someone who truly enjoys your work which could lead to a purchase of what you have written. Isn’t that the purpose anyway?
For those of us who love to write it gets really frustrating when life events get in the way. The reality of life is that they do and that will never change. Of course, that also gives as writer a plethora of new subject matter. What people around us fail to see is that they are all subject to being part of your writing! You learn to change names ( and protect the innocent) with phrasing. I do find it rather amusing that many people think that something I wrote was about them and in reality, it had nothing to do with them at all. For me, it’s a combination of people and events that lead me to write about something. The thing is I never know when these inspirations or events will trigger something and neither do those around me!
