We have all faced situations in life that you know you simply have to walk away. The problem is your heartstrings keep wanting you to stay! It can be a simple thing that keeps pulling at you. In business, it can lead to catastrophic results if you don’t walk away. That doesn’t mean that you feel any less of that person or their talent but business is business. That does sound cold-hearted especially enjoy the person and their company. If you really don’t like the person that is your right but it doesn’t give you the right to be a jerk about it.
The phrase ” business is business” has been around forever and there are two basic thoughts behind it. One train of thought takes the approach that is cold-hearted and mean. The thing is you have no idea who that person knows and being a jerk could cost you everything. I prefer the second approach. You approach the person and have an adult conversation about their work isn’t right for the current project but you appreciate their time and effort. Then don’t be lazy and reach out to that person again within a week. Sending someone an e-mail is lazy plain and simple! Walking away isn’t always the easiest thing to do but misleading others is never right!
